Not long afterwards Molli did fall asleep. Trine went to bed while I remained in the living room with Molli: we didn't dare move her for fear she'd wake up again. After about an hour or so she got a little restless again. She was awake enough I could move her into the bedroom. From that point forward she was actually pretty normal, but we were so frightened, or nervous, or whatever new parents are after such an episode, that we could hardly sleep ourselves. I spent most of the night letting Molli sleep on or beside me. She enjoyed it, but I was too nervous to get any real sleep. When she woke up and cried Trine would feed and burp her: then I could sneak in maybe 30-45 minutes sleep. And we cycled through the night like that. Just awful.
But Molli's been pretty normal today—"a little wiped out," Trine says, "and a little cranky and hungry this morning," but now she's back into her usual rhythms. Lucky her! You certainly couldn't say the same for us.
It wasn't her first cranky episode and probably won't be her last. But we are absolutely exhausted. What fun it will be when farmor is staying with us and we let her spend some quality time with Molli from, say 1am to 5am! (It won't be that bad, mom... that's just 7pm to 11pm Eastern time!)
In other news, we've stepped her up to the next diaper size (3-6 kilo), and are beginning to phase in some of her bigger clothes. (And we did get her into the Tigger outfit one more time.)
Oh! And she's not a redhead after all. And a single one of her smiles can still dispel the darkest gloom of a Danish summer in an instant. So as rough as she may be from time to time, we're still gonna keep her!
I was just about to publish this post when I sighed aloud that there weren't any new pictures. Trine's sitting on the couch to my left with Molli in her lap, and Molli is sleeping very peacefully.
"Why not just take a picture right now?" Trine said. So I did. And here it is.
